Overview
Ibutamoren, commonly called MK-677, is an oral small-molecule growth-hormone secretagogue. It is not a peptide or a SARM, even though it is marketed alongside both. Human research exists, but a hormone-marker change is not equivalent to an approved muscle, anti-aging, or cognitive treatment.
Community Use
Community interest commonly focuses on sleep, appetite, muscle mass, or recovery. These are separate endpoints, not a single established wellness indication. No exact MK-677 profile was found in the requested community catalogs during this review. We do not replace that gap with an invented protocol or a performance cycle.
Doses, Durations & Cycles
Informal biohacking protocols and published regimens. Attributed website reports for education, not medical recommendations. Multiple publications document circulation; they do not establish a safe dose or validate a cycle.
| Route / formulation | Dose / reported phases | Frequency | Duration / break | Notes and source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oral | The page lists 10 mg/day as its low-dose option and 25 mg/day as its standard option. | Once daily, usually at bedtime; morning use is also described. | It describes 6–12 months or year-round use, and a separate eight-week intermittent approach. Break: Two weeks after eight weeks in the intermittent approach. | Published informal biohacking claim Know Your Peptide |
| Oral | 10–25 mg for the growth-hormone row; 12.5–25 mg for the separate body-composition row. | Once daily. | 8–12 weeks. Break: 4–6 weeks. | Published informal biohacking claim PeptideHub |
Important context: Breaks differ. These claims support neither injectable MK-677 nor a universal safe maximum.

Amounts from human clinical trials belong to the studied indication, population, and monitoring plan. They are not a validated bodybuilding or anti-aging schedule. The dosage section should identify trial context without offering a loading phase, recreational course, or on/off timing plan.
Research Findings
A randomized trial in 563 people with Alzheimer disease tested whether MK-677 slowed progression; it did not demonstrate a clinical benefit. A separate randomized study examined body composition and functional outcomes in older adults. These are human trials of specific questions, not general approval. Alzheimer trial; Older-adult trial.
U.S. Approval & Access
No FDA-approved ibutamoren wellness medicine was identified. FDA’s compounding assessment is a regulatory review, not approval of an anti-aging program. Absence of an anabolic-steroid label or a peptide classification does not itself authorize sale or routine clinical dispensing. FDA ibutamoren review.
What It Does in the Body
Ibutamoren acts through ghrelin-related secretagogue signaling and can raise GH and IGF-I markers. That mechanism does not guarantee improved function. Reliable onset, peak clinical benefit, and duration for a proposed consumer wellness use remain undefined; laboratory hormone responses cannot substitute for those outcomes.
Benefits & Reported Experiences
In the Alzheimer trial, increased IGF-I did not translate into slowed clinical progression. The older-adult study also distinguishes changes in fat-free mass from demonstrated functional benefit. These findings are useful reminders that a measurable biomarker or body-composition change may not deliver the improvement a patient actually seeks.
Side Effects & Risks
The older-adult research reported effects including increased appetite, edema, and changes in glucose-related measures. Those concerns matter when the proposed goal is metabolic wellness. Long-term safety for an unapproved consumer program is not established by selecting only the favorable endpoints from a trial.
Delivery Options
The human research considered an oral investigational product. A retail research capsule is not automatically the same formulation or supply. This profile provides no self-directed dosing or timing around food, sleep, or exercise. A community claim of oral convenience does not settle medical suitability.
Product Quality & Storage
Verify the actual formulation and whether any lawful patient-care pathway exists. No consumer storage rules are guessed for an unapproved product. Analytical identity and concentration cannot demonstrate clinical effectiveness or equivalence to the sponsor-controlled medicine used in a trial.
Combinations & Interactions
No performance stack with steroids, secretagogues, or post-cycle drugs is provided. Several agents affecting the GH/IGF axis do not automatically produce complementary benefits. A clinician should review the complete medicine history and metabolic context before interpreting changes in appetite, swelling, or laboratory measures.
Talking With Your Provider
If you are concerned about low strength, sleep, or healthy aging, describe the symptom and its impact during a consultation. Ask whether there is a diagnosis and an established approach that fits your goal. Research interest can support an informed discussion without promising MK-677 or overlooking the negative clinical findings.
