Understand the topic
DSIP / Emideltide.
A clearer overview.
Start with the research. Keep your goals in view.
Research topic. DSIP is not an FDA-approved insomnia, narcolepsy or opioid-withdrawal medicine. This page offers research education and a discussion of appropriate care.
What makes it interesting.
Delta sleep-inducing peptide, also called DSIP or Emideltide, is a nine-amino-acid peptide. Its name comes from early experiments involving brain-wave activity. Its role in natural human sleep regulation and the mechanism of a therapeutic effect are not established by that name.
The story behind the interest.
Schoenenberger and Monnier described the peptide in a 1977 rabbit study. The original work involved direct brain administration in an experimental setting. Later human sleep studies explored different exposures, which is why the route, study design and actual sleep outcomes matter more than the label.
Evidence before expectations
Read beyond
the headline.
A useful research discussion includes the study design, the population and the outcome measured.
Read the original sourcesThe early rabbit experiment helped characterize DSIP and its effects on electrical brain activity. It did not establish a routine human treatment, and its experimental route is not a model for consumer use.
FDA’s 2026 briefing reviews older human insomnia studies, including a study reporting little therapeutic benefit and no significant difference in objective sleep measures or subjective sleep quality compared with placebo.
A sleep problem can involve insomnia, irregular schedules, breathing disturbances, medication effects or another condition. The most useful care conversation starts with what happens at night and how you function during the day rather than assuming that one research peptide fits every pattern.
| Research setting | What the record shows | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| 1977 discovery study | DSIP was characterized through experiments in rabbits. | Does not establish human effectiveness or safety. |
| Human sleep studies | Older studies used limited samples and different routes. | Results do not provide a reliable routine treatment standard. |
| 2026 FDA review | Emideltide was reviewed for several proposed uses. | The review is separate from drug approval and access. |

A clear reference for your conversation with a clinician.
Research doses describe a specific study, not a treatment plan. Online popularity does not establish safety.
| Preparation / context | Dose reference | Frequency | Duration / cycle | Evidence & source |

Risks & concerns
What deserves attention.
- Limited and route-specific evidence leaves long-term safety and interactions unresolved.
- FDA describes incomplete safety information for the proposed preparation and immune-response concerns.
- An experimental compound should not delay assessment of severe daytime sleepiness, breathing problems or medication-related sleep changes.
A compound’s name, a purity claim or research-use labeling does not establish patient-ready quality, sterility or a reliable clinical outcome.
Regulatory context
Review is not an approval.
Emideltide free base and acetate were on the July 2026 compounding agenda. The proposed uses included insomnia, narcolepsy and opioid withdrawal; evaluation does not mean those uses are approved.
Compounding review, permission to conduct research and approval of a finished drug are different decisions. This page is an invitation to learn and discuss appropriate care, not a statement that this compound can be supplied.

Make the next
step clearer.
You can be curious about research and still choose a practical care path available today.
Does the name mean DSIP reliably induces deep sleep?
No. The name reflects early experimental findings. It is not a guarantee of a clinical effect. Human evidence needs to show meaningful improvements in sleep and daytime function.
Is DSIP a replacement for sleep assessment?
No. Persistent insomnia and excessive sleepiness can have different causes and require different care. Discuss the pattern and severity with an appropriate clinician.
Can it be used to manage opioid withdrawal?
This page does not recommend that use. Opioid withdrawal and substance-use treatment should be managed with a qualified clinician using an appropriate care plan, rather than an experimental peptide.
What happens after I submit an inquiry?
The team explains the appropriate next step and costs. Any clinical care requires individual assessment. An inquiry does not promise DSIP treatment, a clinical-trial place or a prescription.
